AKASPORT at 10 - Diversification always wins in our book!!

As we celebrate our 10th year of diverse sports experiences for kids, we will pause regularly to reflect on our founding goals and the vision that became AKASPORT.  Thank you for your continued support!

Diversification always wins in our book!!

AKASPORT – or “AKA” as many of our parents and kids call us – was founded on a belief that in a perfect society every kid deserves to experience all the world has to offer.  Our way of providing this is through sports.  Give them variety and give them variety!  In short, we believe that Diversification is greater than Specialization!!

When AKASPORT was founded in 2004, we conducted extensive research on the growing trends of kids specializing in sports.  And through all of this research, the facts were alarming.  The one that stood out the most was that studies show that an alarming 70% of the approximately 20 million children who participate in organized out-of-school athletic programs will QUIT by the age of thirteen because of unpleasant sports experiences. (Fred Engh, author and president of the National Alliance for Youth Sports, 2002).

Since 2004, there has been much more research and scholarly writing but still no true fix to this problem.  AKA believes we can help.  Keeping kids and families active by providing an assortment of sports and active programs is our #1 priority and we foresee providing for thousands of kids and families for many years!

AKA is a frame of mind...a sense of active participation and fun through sports and exercise.  As the benefits of sports diversification are well examined through research and sports medicine, AKASPORT offers programs that focus on well-rounded technical skills development and overall gross motor coordination...the kind of well-rounded development that can last a lifetime!  And beyond the motor skill development, AKA strives to foster social development and interaction among kids.  To say that kids are having fun is an understatement!  AKA kids are getting the opportunity to try out new sports and adventures and avoiding mind-numbing video games and sugar-ridden snacks.

We coach and train kids of all ages and sizes and introduce them to a variety of sports and activities for the inexperienced to the (think they are) experts.  By no means are we experts, but I will tell you that when it comes to sports and active participation, we keep it real!  We give all our kids a chance to try a little bit of everything.

Have fun kids!!
